What is in your hands to Give?

As we were driving to the Bukidnon, we could see young children standing on the sides of the roads with their hands out, expecting some sort of Christmas joy to be tossed to them, anticipating money or perhaps candy. Anything they receive makes them happy because it is something unexpected. It is always a pleasure for me to be able to bless these dear ones as i throw candy out to them, and I think about what kind of Christmas they would have. Most tribal people live by a barter system, if they harvest 13 sacks of rice, one sack will be theres to take home. If the people of Survivor were to be put into a contest against these precious people, the tribal people would win HANDS DOWN. They rely totally off the land and the work of their hands. We know personally a few churches here in Davao that will gather used clothes, food and such to be delivered to their outreaches, what a blessing this is to the people in the mountains.

We had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate Christmas with our friends and neighbors in Valencia on the property. It was a blessing to us to be able to share this time of year with our Filipino family the Arpilleda's and our neighbors who live beside us. We had Nanay Helen make the food for this event and as always it was Lami Kaayo ( Very delicious). We decided to have a movie night, and set it up like an outdoor theatre, it was so much fun. ( Popcorn theatre style was served).

As I think back to my childhood memories with my family. I remember how my mom made it special. She always had a plate of treats set up for each of us kids on Christmas morning. ( Oranges, candies, homemade baking etc.) We didn't have allot of money growing up but my mom and dad always made me feel rich inside. She knew the true gift of hospitality and gave what was in her hands to give. ( I have learnt so much from her).

"He lifts the poor from the dust-- Yes, from a pile of ashes-- And treats them as princes sitting in the seats of honor. For all the earth is the Lord's And he has set the world in order"
1 Sam. 2:8

"When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord--and he pays wonderful interest on your loan! "
Prov. 19:17

This year let us remember those that are less fortunate even more so those that are spiritually bankrupt, without a Saviour.

"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
1 John 4:10

And remember to pray for the missionaries in your church, for most of us this is a lonely time as we are not with our families and friends.

May the Lord bless you this Christmas and in 2010!
